The University of the Western Cape’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) hosted its first webinar on 13 July 2020. The webinar, titled ‘Human-centred Design: Creative solutions to critical challenges in South Africa’, was aimed at a general audience as well as the CEI’s core audience of students and entrepreneurs.
With universities in their fifth month of lockdown, the absence of students has impacted on teaching programmes that relied on contact and experiential learning. Unlike lecture-based programmes that could switch to online delivery, the CEI coordinates co-curricular programmes that require UWC students to work in project teams and learn entrepreneurship through real-world experiences such as organising events, pitching business ideas to potential funders and incubating actual start-up businesses.
