Finlit Challenge – Winners | Video | Pictures

The UWC FinLit Challenge was about students redesigning the financial literacy experience of young adults aged 18-25 years. The challenge was offered by Metropolitan’s (MMI Foundation), in partnership with UWC Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) and Innovate South Africa.

It created an opportunity for students to bring their voice and perspective to a very pertinent issue in South Africa. Financial Literacy, which is a vital need among young adults in South Africa in order to improve their financial security and avoid the debt trap so prevalent in the country. There is a particular gap in knowledge among young adults after they leave home and are required to be financially independent as they become less reliant on their parents or guardians.

Employability opportunity with UWC Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Make the most of the internship, team Precious Penny!

The UWC/Metropolitan FINLIT Challenge challenge concluded in May and saw 5 University of the Western Cape (UWC) students win the challenge and earn an internship to design and develop an innovative financial literacy programme for Metropolitan, a division of MMI Holdings, to be rolled out countrywide.

The winning team, Precious Penny, designed a game to be used as a financial literacy tool – an edutainment approach to help people learn more about financial literacy and enjoy the learning process.

Precious Penny now have the opportunity to work with a professional design team from Elevator to develop their financial literacy programme for use by Metropolitan (the client) – and empower others with the ability to control their own financial futures.
